Most of our racing/sport customers require custom-designed solutions. All our motors are made-to-order and tailored to the specific requirements of the particular use case. This can include adjustments to housing, shaft, number of poles, winding, cooling, IP rating, potting material, magnet material, adding gearbox, etc. These adjustments allow us to build the most efficient, lightest, most robust but at the same time most powerful motors for the specific application of our customers. Our motors are ideally suited for applications with constraints in space, weight and energy supply.
The complexity of drive system integration is often underestimated. Customers should think about thermal management, air flow and power supply early in the development phase. Our engineers have strong experience and stand ready to provide you with development and system integration support.

Racing Motor Project
Plettenberg developed and manufactured an electric drive system for a racing application.
A customer approached us for the development and manufacturing of a full motor & ESC solution for a racing application, in which a combustion engine was to be replaced by an electric motor. The customer had strict requirements regarding size, weight and power but also wanted to maximize system the efficiency. The customer also required drive system integration, including motor/ESC configuration, ideal power supply, thermal management, etc. In addition, no breakdown or failure was allowed during competitions, even under the harshest conditions.
We work hand in hand with our customers to develop a tailored motor and ESC solution. We supported the customer with engineering support as well as integration of the drive solution into the final product. In addition, we wrote a tailored firmware for the ESC and provided the customer with various high-performance accessories.
The customer received all required engineering as well as integration support and finished all project milestones ahead of schedule. All motor related challenges could already be mitigated in development phase. All performance tests have been full success and the new drive system is set to become standard.
